Before investing in a trend piece it is important to make sure it can be worn many ways. Yada yada yada, you say. This is an obvious statement and is easier said than done. It is not unusual for a trendy item to sit in a closet collecting dust until that one specific outfit comes about. Not only is it dollars wasted but a super cute piece of clothing starts to become the middle child of the wardrobe and doesn’t get the loving admiration it deserves.
Therefore, let me re-introduce the series Wear of the Week. In this series I feature a current trend and show multiple ways to wear it. I started this series a couple years ago and it will hopefully inspire you to rethink how an item can be worn.
This week the kimono jacket gets the spotlight. Although draped in bright colors and bold prints, this versatile piece easily adds the pizzazz to almost any outfit.

An easy way to dress up the kimono jacket and update those maxi dresses in your closet is to pair the two together. Not only is this one of the most comfortable outfits you’ll ever wear, but the free flowing nature of the two together leaves lots of room for that extra margarita or two at your next summer BBQ (lest you forget it is Cinco de Mayo, after all).
Black is an expected color (but definitely works!). If you have something more daring in your closet (grey? navy? olive green?) it will give the outfit an extra edge.
Plus, this quintessential SoCal combination portrays that your biggest worry is deciding what beach you’ll be going to this weekend.
